About us
We are Stijn and Lieselot, a Flemish couple with a lifelong passion for dogs. In Belgium, we ran a dog hotel for many years, but after our emigration to Spain in 2018, we were soon confronted with the distressing situation of many dogs in need.
What started as temporarily sheltering dogs at our home soon grew into a true mission. Requests increased, and we realized that we needed more space and resources to really make a difference. In 2022, we finally found the perfect location: a site with kennels and the necessary permits, where we could continue pursuing our dream.
Today, we provide a safe home to about 60 dogs. Here, they receive the care, love, and attention they deserve, while we search for a warm, permanent home for each of them.
What do we do?
Lovingdogs takes in neglected, dumped, and surrendered dogs.
At the end of the hunting season, many Galgos and Podencos are declared surplus by their hunters. To them, these animals are not loyal companions or pets, but merely tools. Many are abandoned, often after a period of abuse or malnutrition. Those who are lucky are dropped off at our gate – but sadly, countless dogs still die before they get the chance to be rescued.
It is heartbreaking to see the condition in which some dogs arrive at our care: emaciated, full of internal and external parasites, with wounds or even fractures.
And it is not only hunting dogs that are abandoned. Large and small dogs, old and young, even puppies, end up with us too. They are often dumped in gruesome ways: in trash cans, along the road, or simply left behind in the fields.
At Lovingdogs, every dog receives an initial medical check-up and the necessary care. We always microchip them, test for Mediterranean diseases, administer the necessary vaccinations, and – if possible – have them spayed or neutered.
Afterwards, each dog is evaluated individually. We look at his or her needs and character so that we can find a loving and suitable adoptive family.
